Final meeting of the BMBF Programme Urban Climate under Change [UC]2 Phase I
End of May, the final meeting of the BMBF Programme Urban Climate under Change [UC]2 took place at the Kleinhuis Hotel Baseler Hof in Hamburg. The final meeting was well attended with over 80 people from all three modules as well as practical partners from the participating cities and members of the Module C steering group.
After a welcoming address by the Project Management Agency (DLR-PT), Module A (MOSAIK) and Module B (3DO) presented the results of their research of the last three years. During breaks and dinner there were lively discussions about the presentations.
Next morning the final meeting was continued with Module C (KliMoPrax, UseUClim) consisting of two joint research projects. The meeting ended with an outlook on the contents of Phase II of the programme, which was lately announced by the BMBF. After farewell, the participants were able to visit the wind tunnel laboratory of the University of Hamburg. Prof. Bernd Leitl impressively explained the functioning of the wind tunnel using a model of Berlin, Steglitz on a scale of 1:500.
Reactions of the participants to the final meeting were very positive. With the presentations of the three modules, the meeting provided a good overview of the progress achieved with regard to the development of the practice-oriented urban climate model PALM-4U. Practical partners from the cities involved, who had already been able to test the model, were also well satisfied with the meeting. With this in mind, we are all looking forward to Phase II and thus to the further development of PALM-4U and its progress in practical application.
