Thank you for your interest in the website of the research programme "Urban Climate Under Change" [UC]2, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The website is operated by the Chair of Climatology of the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). The protection of personal data of visitors of the website is very important to us. Therefore, we would like to inform you about the data protection of this website at http://www. uc2-program.org/*.
Subject of data protection
Data protection deals with personal data. According to Article 4 No. 1 of the European General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR), this is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, i.e. any information that can be used to identify you. This includes details such as name, private address, e-mail address or telephone number, but also usage data such as your IP address.
Of course, the Chair of Climatology complies with the legal provisions on data protection as well as other legal provisions and requirements.
We do everything to ensure that you can trust us with regard to your personal data. For example, transmission of personal and sensitive data is encrypted. In addition, our web pages are protected by technical measures against damage or unauthorized access.
General data protection notice
1. When you access web pages of the Chair of Climatology or download data from these pages, information about this is stored in a log file with the following content:
- IP address of your device
- date and time of the page call
- page called up or name of the file called up
- amount of data transferred
- "user agent string" of your web browser
- website from which you accessed the current page or file
- and the status message whether the access or retrieval was successful.
This non-anonymized log data is automatically deleted after two weeks, not archived and used exclusively for non-commercial purposes. They are only viewed manually if necessary and are required for error analysis, optimization or investigation of cases of abuse or performance bottlenecks. This represents a legitimate interest in the sense of Art. 6 (1) lit. f EU-GDPR. A right of objection according to Art. 21 EU-GDPR is not possible due to lack of technical feasibility.
2. Cookies are often additionally used for data collection and storage. Cookies are used by us to enable you to make optimal use of the websites. They are in no case used to track personal user actions or for behavioral analysis. They are used exclusively where they are technically necessary or more useful than other techniques (in the sense of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f EU-GDPR): to record your login status and your consent to the display of external content (opt-in). As a result, the use of the websites is predominantly possible without the use of cookies. However, cookies are technically necessary for functions or pages that require a login or password. We use temporary and permanent cookies. Temporary cookies (also called session cookies) are automatically deleted when you close your web browser. Permanent cookies, on the other hand, have a set lifetime. You can set your web browser to delete cookies that have already been stored.
3. In addition to cookies, we also use local storage technology ("local data" or "local storage"). These are used to maintain your session. For this purpose, data is stored in the browser's cache, which continues to exist and can be read even after the browser window is closed or the programme is terminated. Third parties cannot access the data stored in the local storage. They are not passed on to third parties and are not used for advertising purposes. Insofar as the use of local storage technology is not absolutely necessary to enable the functionality of our offer, we use it only after consent, see § 25 TTDSG, Art. 6 para. 1 a DSGVO.

Responsible Persons
Please refer to our imprint for general responsibilities.
Scope of data collection and storage
For our handling of personal traffic data, please refer to the "General Data Protection Notice" and the chapter on "Collection and Storage of Usage Data".
The active communication of your personal data is not necessary for the use of our web pages. However, in order for the Chair of Climatology to fulfil its service mandate, we require personal data in individual cases, the processing of which is carried out in the sense of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a EU-DSGVO. This applies in particular to answering individual e-mail inquiries or commissioning of special services.
If you commission us to provide a service, we will generally only collect and store your personal data to the extent necessary for the provision of the service.
You may at any time and without justification revoke your consent once granted and request the deletion of your data. You can request the deletion of your data by sending an e-mail to the data controller.
Collection and storage of usage data
Log data
In order to optimize our website, we store data such as the IP address of your device, the page accessed, the date and time of the page access and the page from which you accessed our site.
This data is retained for error handling and to detect attempts at misuse, and is automatically deleted after two weeks and not archived. Permanent storage is excluded. This represents a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f EU-GDPR. A right of objection according to Art. 21 EU-GDPR is not possible due to lack of technical feasibility.
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
Some of our websites use a plugin to integrate maps. The open source mapping tool "OpenStreetMap" (OSM) is used here.
The provider is the OpenStreetMap Foundation. When a page with an integrated OSM plugin is called up, a connection to OpenStreetMap servers is established. The operators of OpenStreetMap learn which page with OSM map you have just called up as well as your IP address. The Chair of Climatology as provider of the website https://www.uc2-program.org/ has no influence on this data transfer.
Before transmitting the data, we explicitly ask you once for your consent to display the content of OSM. If you give your consent, this forms the legal basis for the processing of your data (within the meaning of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a EU-GDPR). The technical basis for recording the declaration of consent is a cookie, which is set upon consent and can be deleted by you at any time.
Details on the handling of user data can be found on the OpenStreetMap data protection page.
Location of storage and use of data for specific purposes
We collect, process and store your personal data exclusively internally (usually on the web server of the Chair of Climatology) only for the purpose you have communicated to us and thus observe the principle of purpose-bound data use. Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties without your explicit consent, unless this is necessary for the provision of the service or the execution of the contract. We also transfer data to governmental institutions and authorities only within the scope of our legal obligation to provide information or if we are required to do so by a court decision.
We also take internal university data protection very seriously. Our employees and the service companies we commission are obliged to maintain confidentiality and to comply with the provisions of data protection law.
Right to information
You can obtain information about the data we have stored about you free of charge at any time without having to give a reason. For this purpose, please contact us at the address given in the imprint . We will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about our data protection policy.
In addition, you have the right to correction, deletion, restriction and transfer of your data.
You also have the right to object at any time to the processing of personal data concerning you that is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(e) and (f) EU-GDPR. Thereafter, the responsible body may no longer process the personal data concerning you, unless it can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the purpose of asserting, exercising or defending legal claims.
Right of complaint
If you recognize any indications that we are not handling your data in a data protection-compliant manner, you can contact the Data Protection Team of the Technische Universität Berlin or the supervisory authority at any time.
