The programme ‘Urban Climate Under Change – [UC]²’, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims at the development, validation and application of an innovative urban climate model for entire cities.
The new model will be capable to simulate atmospheric processes for cities in size from Stuttgart to Berlin at building-resolving resolution (10 m or finer). Hence, interdisciplinary analyses for assessment can be done and measures for improving urban climate as well as air pollution prevention can be planned.
The programme started on 1 June 2016 with a duration of three years and a budget of 13 million euro. Four joint research projects with overall 30 subprojects work on three modules: model development (module A), observational data (module B) and practicability (module C).

‘Urban Climate Under Change’ rises to challenge impacts of present and future climatic conditions and air pollution by providing a scientifically-based and practicable instrument for large cities and metropolitan areas.
